Cambridge Medical Centre proudly provides professional patient centred primary health care services for the Cambridge community and surrounding districts within a family focused, friendly and welcoming general practice environment.

Situated on a multi-functional site that also incorporates Pathology, Pharmacy and Medical Imaging services our modern Centre is uniquely placed to provide its enrolled patients, visitors and newly relocated people to the Cambridge community, with a comprehensive and service focused experience.

Dr John Russell

Dr John Russell

Dr Russell has been a GP since 1986. He has wide experience in all aspects of General Practice, with particular interest in Sport Medicine and paediatrics. He has a post graduate Diploma in Sports medicine from the University of Auckland and has been team Doctor to NZ University and NZ schools Rugby teams. He completed his initial medical Degrees at the University of Otago. His outside interests include tennis, tramping and numismatics. he is the proud father of 3 adult daughters and husband of Kareen.

Dr Clare Hamilton

Dr Clare Hamilton

Dr Hamilton is originally from the Yorkshire, UK, trained in Auckland and has been a GP since 2002. She has worked in Niue Island intermittently but since being in Cambridge has continued to be closely affiliated with 'the rock'. Clare travelled in a Land Rover (short wheel base) for 6 months across North and Central Africa doing a disease survey.  Clare came to NZ in 1988 to join a sailing ship, sailed for 6 months around NZ waters and loved it so much she decided to stay.

Clare met her husband up in Niue and they have a young son who attends a local school. She is passionate about her job, gardening and cooking! She has a special interest in children, teenagers and woman's health.

Dr David Smylie

Dr David Smylie gained his medical degree from Aberdeen University, in his native Scotland, in 1986 and completed specialist training in General Practice at Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey, England with jobs in Emergency Medicine, Obstretrics and Gynaegology, General and Neonatal Paediatric, General Medicine, Cardiology and Dermatology. In 1992 Dr David moved to Paeroa, New Zealand where he helped establish the new Paeroa Medical Centre and enjoyed serving as the Honorary Physician for the Thames Valley Rugby Union. In 1999, after a spell as a Registrar in Endocrinology at Waikato Hospital, Dr David and his family moved to Connecticut USA, where he worked as a Family Practitioner as well as being on staff as an Attending Physician at the local hospital. New Zealand drew the family back and in 2004 Dr David became a partner at NorthCare Medical Centre in Hamilton. Dr David also spent time in Melbourne as medical director of a primary care clinic before working in various parts of Australia - including some remote Aboriginal communities.

Dr David enjoys all aspects of General medicine, especially paediatrics and dermatology, but has a particular passion for medical education - having held teaching positions with the University of Connecticut and at the University of Melbourne. Dr David has been with our team since 2016.

Dr Fayez Khalil

Dr Fayez Khalil

Dr Khalil completed his training at Cairo University and then qualified from the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland, with special training in Urology.  He is a very experienced GP who has worked in Ireland and the UK for 20 years before making the decision to immigrate to NZ in 2009.  For the past 9 years he has worked at Matamata Medical Centre whilst recently relocating to Cambridge with his wife and family.  Dr Khalil is also experienced in emergency medicine and minor surgery, including vasectomies.

Dr Khalil and Irish wife, Bernadette, met while they both worked at a hospital in Ireland. They have two sons. Stephen (23) is studying at Auckland University and Jonathan (17) is head boy at St Peters College. In his spare time Fayez enjoys cycling, running and socialising with his family.

Dr Shirley Chan

Dr Shirley is a long time local being born in Hamilton and growing up in the Waikato.  She first became a Pharmacist and then went on to Otago University to study to become a Doctor.  She has been a GP since 2001 and joined the Cambridge Medical Centre team in 2013.  Dr Shirley has interests in all aspects of general practice, and in particular children and families.

Dr Mark Taylor

Dr Mark joined our team in February 2018. He completed his degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) at the University of Leicester, England in 2009. After working in London, he moved to New Zealand in 2011 where he worked at Waikato Hospital and other Hamilton medical centres. He has an Advanced Certificate in Dermoscopy with experience in minor surgery such as mole/lesion removal, phenol matrixectomy (partial toe nail removal) and simple acute wound closures. 

Dr Nurus Halbi

Dr Nurus Halbi moved to new Zealand from Brunei in 2003 having been awarded a scholarship to the University of Otago to study medicine.  Dr Nurus graduated in 2008 and spent time in general and emergency medicine within the hospital setting.  Dr Nurus started her GP training in 2013 and joined the team at Cambridge Medical Centre in 2014.  She is now a qualified GP and has a special interest in Women’s health.

Dr Judikje Scheffer

Born in the Netherlands Dr Judikje received her Medical Degree from the University of Amsterdam in 2006. After working a few years in Emergency Medicine, she completed her training in General Practice in 2013. Two years later she moved to New Zealand with her partner and daughter and has been a GP in Tokoroa and Te Awamutu.

Dr Scheffer has a strong Sport Medicine background, also working as a sports doctor for High Performance Sport New Zealand. She completed her Graduate Certificate in Sports Medicine from the University of Queensland, Australia in 2016. She has an active lifestyle being a competitive cyclist and rower.

Dr Richard Bosacker

Born and raised in Minnesota, USA and completed his medical training at the University of Minnesota. His specialty is primary care and the relationships he develops with his patients are very important to him. He enjoys helping patients understand their medical conditions and live healthy lives. Outside of work, he's an avid cyclist. He enjoys road biking as well as mountain biking. He also enjoys sketching, reading, and travel and has 5 children to keep him busy.

Dr Sadiya Naeem

Born and raised in Pakistan, Dr Naeem completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 2006 at the University of Punjab, Pakistan. She moved to New Zealand in 2008 with her husband and daughter.  She completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Public Health from Auckland University in 2014.  Dr Naeem worked at the Waikato DHB from July 2014 to end of 2017 and after this worked as GP in Paeroa and Hamilton.

Dr Sadiya is fluent in English, Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi.  She enjoys singing, cooking and reading fiction
